Deep Autumn celebrities (Dark Autumn): who and why
People commonly typed as Deep Autumn, also called Dark Autumn, each with the list behind the typing. The interesting names are the ones another list calls Deep Winter.
Deep Autumn Deep Winter Some other season
The same dark hair, two opposite seasons
Fig. 1 sorts people from warm to cool by what the lists print, one square per typing. The top is all orange and the bottom is all blue, and the eight people in the middle are the real story of this page. They’re on one list as Deep Autumn, the warm dark season, and on another as Deep Winter, its cool opposite.
Penélope Cruz (Soul of Color, Season Approved and Brigette’s Newsletter) is Dark Winter at FRANKIE4. Salma Hayek (Season Approved) is Deep Winter at Soul of Color and PersonalColorAI. Gal Gadot (PersonalColorAI) is Deep Winter at Soul of Color. Both Keanu Reeves and Oscar Isaac are Deep Autumn at Season Approved and Deep Winter at Soul of Color.
These lists don’t argue about depth. Everyone agrees these are dark seasons. The fight is entirely over temperature, the one axis that dark coloring and studio light make hardest to read. Soul of Color, which types people both ways, allows that it “can be a bit tricky to tell Deep Winters and Deep Autumn’s apart.”
Who gets typed Deep Autumn
Three names hold on every list that covers them: Halle Berry (Soul of Color, Season Approved, PersonalColorAI and FRANKIE4); Meghan Markle (Soul of Color and FRANKIE4); and Oprah Winfrey (Soul of Color and Season Approved). Next come names with most lists behind them and one going elsewhere. Zendaya (Season Approved, PersonalColorAI and Palette Hunt) is True Autumn at Soul of Color. Jason Momoa (Season Approved and Brigette’s Newsletter) is True Autumn at Soul of Color as well.
Single-list names are easy to find and impossible to check, for example Alicia Keys (Soul of Color); Carla Gugino (Soul of Color); Nia Long (Season Approved); Taraji P. Henson (Season Approved); and Gina Torres (Season Approved). In all, 51 people are typed here by somebody. 27 can be cross-checked, and 3 of those hold everywhere. Soul of Color says of its whole list that “it can be difficult to determine the color season of celebrities from photos alone,” and we’d put the stress on difficult. All of this is other sites’ opinion, repeated with a link. We haven’t typed anyone ourselves, and no one named here has any tie to this site.
Some of the widest spreads we found involve names on this list:
| Person | Placed here by | Placed elsewhere |
|---|---|---|
| Natalie Portman | Soul of Color and Brigette’s Newsletter | Soft Summer (Season Approved); Cool Summer (PersonalColorAI, FRANKIE4); Deep Winter (PersonalColorAI) |
| Kim Kardashian | Soul of Color | Deep Winter (Season Approved, PersonalColorAI, FRANKIE4); Cool Winter (PersonalColorAI); True Autumn (Roberta Style Lee) |
| Ariana Grande | Soul of Color and Season Approved | Bright Spring (PersonalColorAI); Bright Winter (Palette Hunt) |
| Ana de Armas | Soul of Color | Soft Autumn (Season Approved, PersonalColorAI, Palette Hunt) |
| Leighton Meester | Soul of Color and FRANKIE4 | Cool Summer (Season Approved) |
Dark Autumn or Deep Autumn?
The two names cover this same season on nearly every list we read, and this page merges them. Soul of Color writes “Deep Autumn (or Dark Autumn)”. FRANKIE4 prints only Dark Autumn. Kettlewell Colours adds two more names, Blue Autumn and Dark Blue Autumn. The exception to watch is the 16-season system: Agile Styling maps 12-season Dark Autumn to 16-season Deep Autumn, then cautions that the two palettes aren’t necessarily identical. If an analyst gave you a printed fan, follow the fan.
Why dark coloring hides temperature
Warm and cool need room to show, and dark colors don’t have much. Fig. 2 takes a warm color from our Deep Autumn palette and a cool one from Deep Winter at three depths and measures the gap between them. In the middle, Burnt Orange against Jewel Teal, the gap is wide. Among darks, Walnut against Charcoal, it shrinks to about a third of that. Near black, Espresso against Cool Espresso, it’s smaller again, about half the dark pair’s gap.

These are palette colors and not hair, but the logic carries over. Near-black hair gives a viewer little temperature to read, and whatever is there can be changed by dye or light. That pushes the decision onto skin, which is exactly what foundation, bronzer and color balance change. So when two lists split on a dark-haired actor, there’s a good chance they’re each reading the photos they happened to look at.
Curate Your Style has the right instinct for people too: the question is “whether your natural coloring reads slightly warm and earthy or slightly cool and rich.” Very dark coloring narrows you to a few seasons, and it doesn’t say which.
What analysts say they look for
Lists disagree on names and largely agree on the description, so use that. Soul of Color looks for warm, deep eyes and hair “with warm highlights”, and for people who shine in mahogany, chocolate brown and dark olive while baby blue and silver wash them out. The Concept Wardrobe calls this a season of high contrast between hair, eyes and skin. Neither requires a particular skin depth: Soul of Color says “dark to medium”, and Curate Your Style says both deep seasons span the full range of skin tones.
For the head-to-head, with black, navy and the neutrals that decide it, go to Deep Autumn vs Deep Winter. The Deep Winter side of this argument is on Deep Winter celebrities.
Deep Autumn men
Single-list names are common here: Johnny Depp (Soul of Color); Jonathan Bailey (Soul of Color); Dylan O'Brien (Soul of Color); Javier Bardem (Season Approved); Mahershala Ali (Season Approved); and Christian Bale (Brigette’s Newsletter). Pedro Pascal (Soul of Color) shows the usual pattern, sitting on Deep Winter at Season Approved and Warm Autumn at PersonalColorAI, so he has three seasons between three publishers.
Three questions for any dark-haired typing
- Does the list say why? A name with reasoning you can check is worth more than a name in a list. Most lists give only the name.
- Could the warmth be the light? A photo at sunset or under tungsten bulbs turns cool skin warm. The True Autumn page measures how much.
- Who else has typed this person? One list isn’t a consensus, and two may be one source copied.
Then stop looking at them and try the colors on yourself. Hold a warm brown and a cool charcoal under your chin in daylight and see which settles your skin. The season test will take you there step by step, and the Deep Autumn palette has every color with its hex code.

- Who are Deep Autumn celebrities?
- Commonly typed names include Halle Berry, Meghan Markle and Oprah Winfrey, on whom the lists we read agree, and Penélope Cruz and Zendaya, who have one list going elsewhere. None of these typings is confirmed.
- Is Dark Autumn the same as Deep Autumn?
- On nearly every list, yes. They're two names for one position in the 12-season system. A 16-season system may use Deep Autumn for its own palette, and Agile Styling warns that it isn't automatically the same, so check the system behind any list.
- How do you tell Deep Autumn from Deep Winter on a celebrity?
- From photos, not reliably, and the lists show it: eight people we found are typed as both. Analysts look at whether warm earthy colors or cool jewel tones sit better on the skin, which you can only judge well in person, in daylight, without makeup.
- Is Natalie Portman a Deep Autumn?
- Soul of Color and Brigette's Newsletter say so. PersonalColorAI's blog says Deep Winter while its own database says True Summer, FRANKIE4 says True Summer, and Season Approved says Soft Summer. That's four seasons for one person, so we wouldn't rely on any of them.
