Style DNA alternative: listed prices and one-time options

Style DNA is a daily stylist that starts with your colors, and it mostly charges by subscription. If you only want your season and palette, here's what its listing charges, what that adds up to and what else you could do.

First, what are you after?

If you want an app to look in your closet each morning and suggest an outfit, we’re not an alternative, and this page won’t pretend otherwise. Style DNA does that, along with body type, style type, a chatbot, and a check you can run on a garment in a store. We do none of that. On November 4, 2026 its listing had 4.3 stars from 7.5K ratings and said it’s trusted by over 3 million users, a figure we can’t check.

This comparison is for people who came for one thing, their season, and found a subscription attached to the rest. For that person the real question is how long you’ll keep paying.

How much is Style DNA?

The download is free. These are the ten in-app purchases on its US listing, in the listing’s own words. The listing doesn’t say who gets which price, why there are three monthly prices, or what each one includes, and we didn’t pay to find out. Its terms say features “may differ by country, language, relevant store, version, or device”, and that the price shows on the paywall in the app.

The listing is plain on renewal: “Subscription automatically renews unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.” Its terms add: “Subscriptions continue indefinitely.”

That picture favors a one-time price, so here’s the fair reading of it:

  • A short stay can cost less than us. One month at $7.99, cancelled in time, is under $19. So is either one-off item on the list: Advanced Color Palette at $9.99 and Palette and Body type guide at $12.99. We can’t tell you from the listing what those include or whether you could buy them without a plan.
  • A year of the annual plan isn’t much if you use the closet and the outfits. A daily tool at $30 to $40 a year may be good value, and our report doesn’t compete with it.
  • The cost of recurring billing is forgetting. The steep part of the chart only happens to someone who stopped opening the app and kept paying.

How do I cancel?

Bought through the App Store, you cancel with Apple rather than inside the app:

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone and tap your name.
  2. Tap Subscriptions, then the subscription.
  3. Tap Cancel Subscription. Apple’s page says you may need to scroll, and if there’s no button, it’s already cancelled.

Do it at least 24 hours before renewal. Style DNA’s refund policy warns, in its section on website purchases: “your purchased subscription does not cancel automatically if you delete the App.” We’d treat an App Store purchase the same way and cancel first. Refund requests on App Store purchases go to Apple. For subscriptions bought on its website, the policy says you might receive a full refund if you contact it within 30 days of a charge.

Is it worth it, for the color part?

We can’t test that without people, so here’s what users wrote on the listing, in their words and with dates. These are individual opinions from 2023, and the app has changed since.

  • In favor, February 24, 2023: a reviewer wore a cardigan from their palette to a job interview and “was actually shocked at how my skin, hair, and eyes were glowing.”
  • Against, February 9, 2023: “the app is not good at identifying your color season; I recommend using different websites for that and manually selecting your season on the app.” The team replied that a selfie in natural daylight makes all the difference, and that a stylist would determine the color type by hand if you emailed a photo.
  • Mixed, January 29, 2023: a reviewer says the AI placed them in Bright Winter or True Summer, “two very different palettes”, and that the manual examples showed only three white women each. Worth checking if your own coloring isn’t the one in the pictures.

The daylight advice is sound, and it applies to every tool, ours included. A selfie reading shifts with the light, which is why software results move. Our answer is a sheet of white paper and color rounds, and we haven’t compared it with Style DNA or tested it on real people.

Is there a one-time alternative?

Yes, a few, and we’re only one of them. All prices here were read on November 4, 2026.

  • Pay nothing. Our scan gives a season, a runner-up, six colors and one to avoid for free, and every palette’s 40 hex codes sit on its own page. Colorwise also has a free web analysis. We compare the two here.
  • Pay once in an app. My Best Colors lists lifetime premium at $14.99.
  • Pay once for images of you. Palette Hunt says one-time, from $19. We also list a Full Color Report at $19 once. Ours isn’t on sale yet, so nobody has it, and the sample is the most we can show you.
  • Pay a person. The cost guide has real session prices. It’s the most expensive route and the one with a trained eye.

Common questions

How much does Style DNA cost?
The download is free. On November 4, 2026 its US listing showed monthly plans at $7.99, $9.99 and $19.99, three-month plans at $14.99 and $19.99, a six-month plan at $29.99 and annual plans at $29.99 and $39.99, plus two one-off items at $9.99 and $12.99. It doesn't say who sees which price.
Can I use Style DNA for free?
You can download it free. The listing says a subscription gives unlimited access to all features and mentions a free trial, but it doesn't spell out what stays free without paying. We didn't install it, so we can't tell you where the paywall falls.
Does deleting Style DNA cancel the subscription?
Don't count on it. Its refund policy says, for website purchases, that a subscription does not cancel automatically if you delete the app, and we'd assume the same for the App Store. On iPhone, cancel in Settings under your name and Subscriptions, at least 24 hours before it renews.
Does your site do outfits or a closet?
No. We stick to color: your season, palette, undertone, skin tone, and try-ons for hair and lipstick. If you want daily outfits from your own clothes, a stylist app such as Style DNA is built for that and we are not.
